Day 5: Mythological

Today's prompt was to write a poem about a mythological or legendary character doing something really ordinary.

Atlas Takes a Nap

Atlas takes a nap
and the world tilts precariously.
Things fall to their edges:
pots, pens, temperaments.
Atlas takes a nap
and the order of things shift:
stars turn their backs,
nights lengthen.
Atlas takes a nap
and the tectonic plates collide,
winds wail, clouds gather,
animals slide to their demise.
Atlas takes a nap
and peace loses its balance.
Atlas takes a nap
and somehow his sleeping body is held
by the void's blackness.
Atlas takes a nap and all at once
every heart becomes
an Atlas.
