Today's prompt is a simple one (well, theoretically): to write about a flower.
Rose
Here, says the rose, is beauty
many layers deep.
Labyrinthine elaborate design,
petals whorled tight
in a swooning roulade;
mille-feuille of pink kisses.
The telltale flower of love,
romantic missive to declare
a fanfare of feeling.
A story in its curvature, gently told:
perfect, patient, brimful,
whisper-wrought.
Exactly how the heart unfurls
when given as a gift.
Its quiet blush a promise,
banner of delight.
To bloom, says the rose,
is the fate of all who love.
Gorgeous word choices: labyrinthine, unfurls -- and mille-feuille! Yes!
ReplyDeleteThank you Elizabeth. I'm just after changing it around a little...again! I find every NaPo poem is a first draft and some offer endless tinkering :)
